Win Farmyard Heads & Tails from Orchard Toys

Posted on November 2nd, 2015

Here at Coombe Mill our holidays are designed primarily for family fun but there is an educational aspect to a stay here on the farm that all children benefit from. This we supplement with our educational website pages supported by the current national curriculum and our activity hour with many an educational game or craft for the children to enjoy.  I am always looking for ways to further develop this learning association and Orchard Toys asked me if I’d like to work with them I knew straight away they fit perfectly with their educational toys and games for youngsters.

WIN Farmyard Heads and Tails

Farmyard heads and tails

When I was asked to take a look at this lovely matching game I knew it would be just up our little helper’s street. After a few days here on the farm the children knew just what animals they were looking for in the box and had a lovely time matching heads to tails and demonstrating the noise the animals made.

There is even a very young looking Farmer Nick in the set who the children were quick to spot along with his lovely tractor, though it was noted by the older ones that this one is Red and Farmer Nick’s is blue. After a week where all the children had enjoyed a turn at driving the tractor this was the favourite pair to make, followed by the pig as the children have loved feeding Sally and her piglets this week.

Farmer and Tractor Game and Real Life

The Farmyard game is made from quality wipe clean glossy card and developed to help children in several ways supporting learning here on holiday:

  • Developing Manual dexterity

  • Encourage observation and matching skills

  • Promote turn taking and sharing with social interaction

  • Develop language and memory skills

The game is designed from 18months but can also be played with older children turning the cards face down instead of face up and making it a memory game to turn and match the pairs in turn. My Triplets at age 11 still enjoyed playing this.

At just £7.50 from the Orchard Toys website this would make a lovely birthday present, Christmas present or game to play before a farm visit or holiday with us. Our Game can be found in our reception borrow room for all our guests to enjoy.
