Surf Club at Polzeath Beach
Every Tuesday from Easter to October we hit the beach after school. Come rain or shine the children adore the beach and are growing in their surfing abilities too! They are members of Boardriders which is a special club for Cornish kids run after school by the lovely Surf's Up team at Polzeath beach. The older 2 children have now progressed to the "Elite Squad" while the younger ones have moved from "Beginners" to "Improvers" this year.
After a scramble to pull on wet suits they are off to find their friends and collect their boards
1st stop is a refresher session on the beach. Here they gain all the top tips from the instructors on style and technique. They also learn about water safely, rip currents and looking after the boards.
Then it is into the water for over an hour of fun and surf! They all have so much energy and surfing is a great way to use it up! I usually body board alongside them, but sometimes I will grab a long board and surf with them, or try anyway, I spend most the time falling in and pulling myself up afterwards. The children make it look so effortless and can't understand why I find it hard but I still love trying and being in the sea with them.
For anyone staying on holiday with us at Coombe Mill, I can thouroughly recomend lessons through Surf's Up. Children from age 7 plus can try with a one to one lesson, group lesson or a series for the week. Money well spent for the adventurous.
