An adventure into Narnia

Imaginative play is something I love to encourage with the children. My youngsters are growing up so fast but I relish afternoons when they forget their age and absorb themselves in the world of make belief.  I had been repairing the little fishing nets in reception ready for our half term guests when the children asked if we could go pond dipping with them in our lakes.  It was a beautiful afternoon and I was keen to encourage them so on went the wellies and off we went with a washing up bowl and nets.

We took the scenic route and as we passed our gate style tree the children imagined they were entering into Narnia.

Stepping into Narnia

In our land of Narnia is the trout lake, long grass, boggy patches, the river and our teenage piglets. What could be better for a natural adventure playground? The children set about seeing if they could find any signs of life in the pond accompanied by our pigs that were full of curiosity and followed the boys everywhere!

Pond dipping with the piglets!

Despite a good skim of the pond and cautious attempt at the river the best they came across was an old piece of weed coated plastic which we removed to take back to the rubbish bin. I think we will have another go in a few weeks time when spring is more in evidence on the lakes.

Then their attention turned to the long grass and boggy puddles, a perfect Narnia landscape where they took on characters, jumping around and hiding in the grass pretending to protect Narnia from the evil mythical beasts. The big boggy section became a special save haven where they were they could rest before returning to do battle! I sat watching them fondly in the afternoon sunlight.

 Playing in Nania

Back at home Clio had struck lucky on the pheasant trap from last week. She was not at all keen to handle the bird so Guy and Daddy took him off to be released with a stern warning that should he return he would find himself in the pot!
