Over half term we took a couple of days mid week to visit family in London and Brighton. We are lucky in that Nick’s Mum still has a large family house despite living alone and it does mean we have a great base for visiting friends in the area and catching up with the children’s cousins. The closest big city is Brighton and the children love to visit, from the pier to The Lanes, the pebble beach to the hustle and bustle of city life, it is all so very different from Cornwall and it always features somewhere in our itinerary.
After trailing round the regular shops trying to sort school trousers and shoes for the boys we rewarded ourselves with a wander through The Lanes. Clio and I love the beautiful jewellery while the boys and Farmer Nick could spend hours looking at the gun shop!
There is one shop quite special to both Nick and I, it is where my engagement ring came from and in fact 21 years ago exactly to when we were there. A bit of a staged photo but the kids were fascinated to hear that this was the shop we stood in deliberating over rings all those years before.
The lanes link the shopping parades to the sea front and as we emerged we dropped down onto the beach. It was sunny but freezing cold, despite this the kids played and we enjoyed a picnic lunch. I think the locals must have thought us quite mad with our picnic on the pebble beach in February but we did head for a coffee after!
Revived, and feeling warmer, we enjoyed a family golfing challenge on the seaside crazy golf course. The holes were really well maintained and great fun to play. It is still on the back burner as an idea for Coombe Mill, although to make it as fun and interesting as this one would cost a pretty penny!
All in a lovely day in a city with a bit of everything to offer it’s visitors
