I love Easter, it comes at my favourite time of year on the farm. There is new life everywhere with baby animals being born and the hedgerows budding. Traditionally spring is when the wet winter weather takes a turn for the better too. It certainly was the case for those staying with us the week of Good Friday, days were chilly but dry and by Good Friday itself there was even a little warmth in the sun. So much so I took Activity Hour with our Easter crafts outside.
Easter Crafts Outdoors
We began by painting egg box chicks which came to life with googley eyes. Then the children took their creative painting skills to my cereal box cut out Easter Eggs. I had a plan for both while the paint dried.
Nature inspired Easter Craft nests
Leaving our paint work we headed up into the hedgerows to make nests for our chicks. We found weaving a circle of willow or Ivy worked really well as a base for our nests with cut crass as a bed for our chicks to sit on. As a finishing touch I added a couple of golden chocolate mini eggs to each nest.
Bunny and Chick Easter Crafts
The afternoon sun had moved over the valley so while our egg painting continued to dry we moved into the warmth of the games room to make toilet roll chicks and rabbits sitting on a kitchen roll log for our next Easter craft. The children needed help with the cutting but enjoyed colouring in the faces and ears.
Meanwhile we had cut each painted cardboard egg into 3 pieces and hidden each piece in the Fairy Gardens. The children now had to search amongst the fairies for the 3 pieces to put their cracked egg back together. It was lovely watching them race over and hunt around. There were squeals of joy when they found their pieces. It was a really simple idea that worked so well I think I will adapt the concept for use again.
Choo choo the last ride of the week
For those still eager we skipped, quite literally, over to the train to catch up with Guy for a last train ride leaving parents weighed down with crafts.
