Originally a 16th Century water mill, Coombe Mill child friendly farm holidays is now a beautiful and secluded hamlet of picturesque cottages and lodges set amidst an idyllic 30 acre private estate between Bodmin Moor and the Beach.
Coombe Mill is run for Parents by Parents and as a family team we live here at Coombe Mill to help you out 24/7. We are Farmer Nick, Fiona and our 6 children with a helping hand from Farmer Amber. We understand the needs of young children on holiday and our aim is to provide outdoor safety and home from home facilities, carefully combined to create sense of freedom and adventure for the children, whilst giving you the parent a place to relax and even the chance for Grandparents to come along and spend quality time with their grandchildren too.
The part of the holiday that sets Coombe Mill apart from other Child Friendly Farm Holidays is the daily morning tractor rides around the farm to feed all the different animals. From Chickens, Pigs, Ducks and Rabbits, to Sheep Goats, Deer and Ponies there really is an animal to please everyone who stays with us. Join Farmer Nick or Farmer Amber as many days as you’d like during your stay for a truly hands-on farm animal experience, and even go home for breakfast with fresh eggs you’ve collected yourselves!
Being parents ourselves we knew exactly what you look for when booking a child friendly farm holiday and we aim to make going away with the kids that much easier. All of our cottages and lodges have access to, at least one, full size wooden cot, bed guards, blackout blinds, and high chairs as required as well as stair gates fitted top and bottom as standard. To top it off, Tree Roots, Willow and Honeysuckle cottages & Heligan, Trebah, Trevarno and Polzeath Lodges all have built in Play Rooms perfect for those days where you don’t want to stray too far from the farm whilst all the other properties have their very own Toy Box so you won’t need to bring all your toys with you. Finally, to make your stay even more luxurious, many of our properties boast Super King size beds and Tree Roots Cottage even has its own Hot Tub in its private garden.
Alongside the farm, our 30 acres of land is also home to plenty of open space for the kids to explore. On a walk around Coombe Mill you will discover plenty of play areas. There is a pirate boat and trampoline, fort play area with a zip line, swings and a slide, Under 5’s “ride on” play area with Little Tykes cars, tractors and Toddlebikes, Under 5’s Soft Play barn and a games room with Pool Table and Ping Pong for older kids. That’s before you even take a look at our wild adventure zones for imaginative play like the Mud Kitchen, Den Building Zone, Fairy Garden and Wildlife Trail. In the summer it’s not unusual to find families splashing in the River Camel that runs through the grounds of Coombe Mill. Differing depths along the river means even teenagers and parents can have a swim!
Coombe Mill is also home to two fishing lakes whilst the River Camel runs through our grounds meaning we have the perfect spot for families with fishermen as well as somewhere for less experienced fishers to try their hand. If you’ve never been fishing before and want to try on holiday you can book a fishing lesson with one of the owner’s children which comes with a rod to keep.
Aside from the tractor rides every morning, there are also Train Rides every evening – so long as the weather is dry – regularly driven by one of the Coombe Mill Kids, the time varies on the time of year but the smiles on the faces of the children as they ride in the carriages, wave the flag or set the signal never change. Activity Hour is also a big hit with guests, run when there are enough people to come along, Activity Hour encapsulates imaginative play, crafty fun and education into an afternoon that lets the kids take something more than just memories home with them.
Coombe Mill’s location, in St Breward near Bodmin, makes an ideal base for families exploring Cornwall. Just a short drive from the farm holidays of Coombe Mill is the spectacular North Cornish coast with its towering cliffs at Tintagel, pure white child friendly sandy beaches such as Polzeath and pretty harbour villages like Port Isaac and Padstow as well as many attractions both aimed at children and the whole family. As a Coombe Mill guest you can even swim for free at the local leisure centre if a dip in the river here isn’t for you.
